Well it seems it's
been entirely too long since an update has happened to DevSearcher (at
least to this page anyway). Rest assured that we're not just sitting around
and watching the net go by. Many things are about to happen that will
make some revolutionary changes to DevSearcher. Changes that we hope you
will think are as exciting as we expect them to be.
Is there anyone out
there who hasn't been inundated by .NET yet? So far the technology looks
to be quite promising but my main worry would be how truly universal it
will untimately be. The Microsoft funding of Corel seems to have some
.NET overtones but there hasn't (to my knowledge anyway) been anything
officially stated so far. If it does in the end become available then
it will certainly have my interest.
We've had the odd
problem of late with our servers (very sorry about that). Hopefully this
has all been taken care of and we shouldn't have any further interruptions
(knock on your nearest piece of wood). We're in the process of converting
everything over to JSP and Java Servlets. This should have the effect
of making this site quite a bit faster and more powerful. I'm hoping to
have a beta of this in place very soon so that you can have a look at
it. Until that happens please don't hesitate to contact me if you encounter
any problems.
  Java.Sun.com
Java.Sun.com is THE source for Java information, documents and
up and coming APIs and technology. The site is well laid-out and contains
a wealth of information pertaining to just about every aspect of Java
programming. Sun also has a developer support area that contains a knowledge
base and access to experimental stuff that you just can't get anywhere
else. If you're into Java (not neccessarily the liquid type) then this
is definately a site you need to check out.

  Apache Tomcat
Tomcat is the reference
implementation of the Java Sevlet 2.2 and Java Server Pages 1.1 technologies.
For those who have been so overwhelmed with .NET information, Servlets
and Java Server Pages provide a rich and extremely powerful platform for
programming multi-tier web applications.
Tomcat integrates
very well with the Apache Web Server and is available for many platforms.
This system has some excellent potential and the user/community support
for it is nothing less then amazing. This is an important technology to
keep an eye on and another worthy recipient of the DevSearcher 3 Stars.
